There are some very important bills moving through the legislature designed to help recruit and retain educators. There are others that will directly impact our working conditions.
These links take you straight to the bill’s page on the legislative website. You can find the bill’s location- which committee is set to hear it or whether it has advanced to the floor to be voted on by the entire chamber.

LOBBYING
Lobbying is the act of talking to elected officials about the merits of your position. Your goal is to influence their position through your knowledge of the issues.
Use legislators’ email addresses, phone numbers and social media accounts to express your views.
When You Contact Your Legislator(s), Here Are Some Tips on How to Talk So Your Legislator Will Listen:
- LIMIT YOUR COMMENTS TO ONE ISSUE or one bill per message.
- IDENTIFY WHO YOU ARE. Inform the legislator that you are an educator, union member and if applicable, a parent, grandparent, etc. Be sure to give your home address when phoning or writing.
- REFER TO THE BILL NUMBER if possible.
- WHAT ACTION DO YOU WANT? Tell the legislator.
- STATE THE KEY REASONS FOR YOUR VIEWS.
- PUT A HUMAN FACE ON THE ISSUE.
Share personal experiences and how the legislation will affect YOU, YOUR FAMILY and YOUR STUDENTS.
- COUNTER ARGUMENTS the opposition is using if you can.
- BE BRIEF.
- ASK FOR A REPLY.
- FIND SUPPORT & GET COMMITMENTS FOR ACTION. Which other legislators support your position?
- ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO TO FURTHER SHARED GOALS.
- SEND A THANK YOU or FOLLOW-UP EMAIL or MESSAGE when appropriate.
