NM Supports to Become a Teacher

With the nation-wide teacher shortage, there is increased interest in figuring out how to recruit and retain strong educators.

That’s why your local union, the Albuquerque Teachers Federation (ATF), and your state union, AFT NM, have advocated for quality teacher training programs that will help folks who want to become educators do just that. So, whether you already possess a Bachelor’s degree and want to change careers or you’re an Instructional Assistant who wants to get your teaching license, chances are New Mexico has a program for you.

Your union has collected as much information as we could find about these programs- some of which came into being because of our advocacy- so that those interested in a career in public education can easily access and evaluate their teacher training program options.

For each of the programs, we are providing information about:

  • Purpose of the Program
  • Amount of Money Available To Support Candidates
  • Details  of the Program
  • Contacts

If you’re already an educator in APS or another NM public school, please pass this information on to prospective colleagues. Click here to download the program list.
