As you have heard by now, all APS employees and recent retirees will be receiving a one-time supplemental compensation for COVID-related work on August 20th! Advocating for this hard-earned and well-deserved money is just one of the many ways your union, the Albuquerque Teachers Federation, fights on your behalf!
The payment was initially slated for release on June 25th. However, the funds were not distributed because the State Auditor raised concerns that the proposed compensation possibly violated the anti-donation clause in the New Mexico State Constitution.
Never wavering in our commitment to our members, your union’s negotiating team worked tirelessly to find a path forward that followed the rules and allowed for the compensation to be distributed as soon as possible. We thank the APS district administration, Superintendent Elder, the APS Board of Ed., and State Auditor Brian Colon for their support and collaboration on the new agreement.
Employees who are not returning for the 2021-2022 school year are eligible to receive the supplemental compensation if they attend a debriefing session with APS and their union. To participate in the debriefing session, non-returning employees must complete the Memoranda of Understanding: Supplemental Compensation Debriefing form on or before August 31, 2021. The debriefing form asks non-returning employees to describe their experiences working during the pandemic, explain how they coped with the pandemic, and discuss strategies the district should consider implementing in future years. In addition to completing the debriefing form, non-returning employees must participate in a debriefing session to be scheduled soon.
As we move into the 2021-22 school year, rest assured that your union will always have your best interests at heart. We will continue to advocate for professional compensation and the best teaching and learning conditions possible.
Promises made, promises kept! Read the agreement here.
