1. Polishing the Diamond: Integrating Restorative Practices into our Schools
January 19th & February 9th 4:00-6:00pm

A student-centered discussion about how to implement restorative practices in our classrooms, schools, and district. We will hold space and conversations around healing wrongdoing, building relationships, and engaging students through a community mindset. Breakout sessions include restorative practices and student discipline, restorative practices during online learning, introduction to restorative practices, and organizing restorative practices in our schools.

Facilitators: Mackenzie Agudelo (Sp. Ed. Teacher, Eisenhower Middle School), Bren Vitter (Teacher, Kennedy Middle School), Mary Jo Hoven (Special Education Teacher, Aztec Complex), Juniper Decker (Crossroads Counselor, Highland High School):

2. Developing Self-Awareness: Did you schedule time to breathe today?
January 19th & February 9th 4:30-6:00pm

Join us for a discussion and interactive workshop focused on building self- awareness in ourselves and our students.  Learn practical strategies that educators can use to deepen understanding of one’s own emotions, thoughts, and values. Share tips and activities that are working for you and learn from the social emotional learning expertise of others.  We will provide a variety of resources to help engage students and a place to learn from each other as we continuously navigate all the firsts that we have been presented with.

Facilitators: Samantha Ashby (Crossroads Counselor, Sandia High School), Michael Klein (School Psychologist, NE Diagnostic Center), Adriana Kerr (Sp.Ed. SEL Resource Teacher)

3. “You saw that, where?” Social Support and Community Building
January 20th & February 3rd 4:00-6:00pm

Are you looking to connect with like-minded individuals? Find others with shared interest? Join us… reflect on experiences, make connections and build relationships. Use this experience of social support and community building to help improve educator mental/emotional health and build a stronger classroom community. So, what are you waiting for?

Facilitators: Jillian Evans (Counselor, Longfellow ES), Jessica Brooks (Counselor, Atrisco Heritage Academy), Carrie Apostle (Teacher, Sandia HS)

4. Is every voice being heard? Examining oppression, power, and privilege through intersectionality
January 21st & February 4th 4:30-6:30pm

This is a facilitated workshop to explore intersectionality in the classroom.  We will discuss barriers to the difficult conversations around power and advantage along with creating spaces where students and teachers can bring the whole of their experience, identity and culture to the classroom.  Finally, we will look at the reference frame underpinning our existing policies and structures and ways to expand our perspectives moving forward.

Facilitators: Bren Vitter (Teacher, Kennedy MS), Beverly Lazar (Special Education Teacher, San Antonio ES), Bonnie Chavez (Teacher, Sandia HS), Cristina Rincon (Bilingual Educator, Adobe Acres ES), Miriam Martinez (Teacher, Emerson ES)

5. Framing Trauma in the Virtual Classroom: Declutter the Mind
January 21st & 26th 4:00-6:00pm

Join us for a facilitated discussion that focuses on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and self-awareness of our own trauma while developing more awareness and understanding of the trauma (both current and past) that is experienced by our students. We will focus on building relationships in order to help our students and ourselves with the trauma that impacts school performance. We will take time to self-reflect in order to extend grace to ourselves, ”declutter” our own minds, and extend grace to our students. The focus will be on building relationships and the importance of building relationships in order to help positively impact academics. If you are wondering how to resolve conflict through healing, understanding, and restorative practices and not damaging relationships by trying to control the outcome, this is the place for you. When we are able to recognize how trauma has impacted our own lives, it opens the door to better understanding our students and allows for more acceptance of the challenges we face.

Facilitators: Allie Weeda (Special Education Teacher, Mitchell ES), Tatia Harris-Lipe (Social Worker, Volcano Vista HS), Johanna Gorse (Teacher, Del Norte HS)
