Let’s Use Our Stimulus Checks To Combat Hunger! Feed Our Families Now!

If the COVID-19 Pandemic has taught us one thing, it’s that educators can and will rise to meet and conquer any challenge. While we were fortunate to stay on our jobs (despite the hardships that entailed) and have security in our incomes, APS educators went above and beyond to help our students, their families, and members of the community who faced food scarcity. Albuquerque Teachers Federation partnered with Roadrunner Food Bank to raise money to fight hunger in our city and state. At this writing, APS educators have donated over $20,000 for this cause!

But we know that the challenge is not over. Many of our neighbors continue to suffer and face food insecurity. Now that we are receiving a third economic stimulus check, thanks to the passage of the American Rescue Plan, we can do more to put nutritional food on the tables of our fellow Burqueños.  Many families across our country, in our state, and in our district have faced loss of income due to shutdowns, furloughs, and cut hours. They struggle to make ends meet.

Let’s show the people of our city and state that we remain strong despite the battles we’ve faced. We’re asking APS educators to recommit to donating part of our stimulus checks to Roadrunner Food Bank as part of our Feed Our Families food drive. You can donate here.

Unionism is about solidarity and social justice. It is about supporting our fellow workers. It is about lifting each other up. Unionism is caring about our communities.

Roadrunner Food Bank, the largest food bank in our state, continues to provide support to Albuquerque residents in need of sustenance. They need us to continue lending a hand.

Let’s donate what we can. Every little bit helps. If all 6,800+ licensed employees we represent pitch in, we can collectively make a tremendous difference in our community and for our families.

Let’s support the community we serve and those who have stood by us in this time of peril. Take action! Donate today!
